Heart of South Downtown Launches to Drive Growth & Opportunity in Atlanta’s Historic Core

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ATLANTA, GA – March 3, 2025 – Amid South Downtown Atlanta’s rapid redevelopment, a new nonprofit, Heart of South Downtown (HOSD), has launched to ensure revitalization efforts create meaningful opportunities for residents, small businesses, and entrepreneurs—without displacement.

Led by CEO Brianna Jackson, HOSD will act as a bridge between businesses, policymakers, and community organizations, championing equitable economic growth, workforce development, and public space activation to build a vibrant and inclusive South Downtown.

"A thriving economy isn’t measured by numbers alone—it’s defined by the opportunities it creates for every individual to unlock their full potential," said Brianna Jackson. "Heart of South Downtown is here to make sure that growth benefits everyone—not just a few. By empowering small businesses, investing in public spaces, and amplifying community voices, we are ensuring South Downtown remains a place where people can live, work, and thrive."

Addressing a Critical Need in South Downtown

Once a thriving commercial and cultural hub, South Downtown is at a crossroads. As new developments bring fresh investment, there is a unique opportunity to ensure long-time residents and small businesses are not left behind. HOSD is committed to preventing displacement, fostering economic stability, and preserving the cultural identity of the neighborhood.

Through strategic partnerships and advocacy, HOSD will:
• Expand economic mobility and workforce development by connecting local businesses with funding, mentorship, and skilled talent.
• Strengthen public safety and community well-being by working with law enforcement, mental health organizations, and crisis intervention teams to create a safer, more resilient neighborhood.
• Promote sustainable growth and social impact by collaborating with developers, nonprofits, and community leaders to ensure responsible investment and long-term benefits.
• Celebrate culture and revitalize public spaces by funding local artists, supporting beautification projects, and creating cultural programming that honors South Downtown’s history.
• Drive civic engagement and advocacy by hosting community forums, leadership workshops, and town halls to empower residents and shape policy decisions that impact the neighborhood.

HOSD is actively seeking board members, business partners, and community advocates who share a vision for a stronger, more inclusive South Downtown.
